SUMMARY:Whose Job Is It? Workforce Development in Northwest Oregon - Niki Price\, Presenter
DESCRIPTION:Robotic factories\, housing shortages\, global competition and the rising cost of education — there are plenty of reasons to worry about our workforce. Fortunately\, there’s a dedicated system of state agencies\, nonprofits and local governments designed to meet these challenges and prepare Oregonians for high-demand\, good-paying jobs of the future. Join Niki Price\, the new program director for Northwest Oregon Works\, for a discussion on the who\, what\, where and data behind workforce development in our region. Bonus for your next family gathering: the presentation will include handouts and great links to share with the job-seekers in your life. \nNiki Price –\nis a development and communications specialist who loves to build trust and find solutions. With a liberal arts degree and a knack for news\, she spent two decades as a writer\, editor and copyeditor for small newspapers — first in her native Arizona\, and later in New Mexico and Oregon. Niki and her husband Dave Price are the co-founders of a tourist-oriented weekly paper\, The Oregon Coast TODAY\, which they operated together until its sale in 2012. Taking a professional pivot\, Niki spent 14 years as the executive director of the Lincoln City Cultural Center\, a rural nonprofit presenting concerts\, exhibits\, festivals and classes at the historic Delake School\, on Hwy. 101. Her volunteer roles include chairmanship of the Lincoln County Cultural Coalition and the Lincoln City Public Art Committee and 10 years on the governor-appointed board of the Oregon Cultural Trust. The urge to serve recently led her to the Oregon State Capitol\, where she worked as a legislative aide for Rep. David Gomberg\, in the 2025 and 2026 sessions. In March 2026\, she was named the Program Director of Northwest Oregon Works\, the workforce development board for our five-county region on the north Oregon Coast. Niki and Dave live in Lincoln City with a garden menagerie of one coon hound\, two tabby cats named after prime ministers and five hens who\, unlike Prices’ two children\, have not yet flown the coop.\n

SUMMARY:"How we run an independent movie theater." - Betsy Altomare\, Presenter
DESCRIPTION:Keith and Betsy Altomore\nThe Bijou was erected in 1937 as the “Lakeside Theatre” to serve the needs of a growing community by providing entertainment. The Altomares have owned the Bijou for 30 years as of 2026. \nBetsy is going to discuss everything about running the theatre from the history of the Bijou to how they book the films\, equipment  used\, marketing the movies and more. \nBio for Keith and Betsy Altomare is: \nKeith and I moved up from California in 1996 after the Los Angeles Riots\, earthquake and fires. We wanted to raise our daughter in a small town. \nWe were both in the music industry. Keith was VP of sale at Rhino records and I worked for a music magazine called HITS. \nNow with first run movies\, timeless classics and matinees every day of the year\, the Bijou has truly been a place where movies still matter Many have come to escape reality and daydream\, envision the future\, or to re-visit the past. \nCouples have broken up\, made up\, and fallen in love under the bathe of the light of our silver screen. They have fought crime\, solved the mystery and sometimes they’ve become the bad guy… \n
